“I’m having really big questions about what a touring theatre should be in the 21st century – and I don’t have any answers at the moment, so please don’t ask me!”

Richard Twyman has been artistic director of English Touring Theatre for over two years. In this interview with Rebecca Atkinson-Lord, he talks about Ned Bennett’s Equus, the painstaking work of developing national audiences, the need to help emerging companies get up to midscale touring level, and the complex balancing acts that are necessary in a world where “everything you do on tour is a risk”.

*Legacy Tapes was chosen as one of The Stage newspaper’s top podcasts of 2017!*
